This research will review and propose changes to the W7, W7a, W8, W8a, W9, W9a and W10a vehicle gauge definitions. It will create a robust evidence base to inform the proposed changes and ensure that these maximise, as much as possible, the opportunity to accommodate wagon and container combinations within these gauges without affecting their route clearance. The analysis will also show where additional gauge enhancement work could unlock the possibility for increased container flows.
