BWL Welcomes Jack Cook to the team

BWL Group welcomed Jack Cook as a Senior Bid Writer earlier this year, bringing bid management experience across software bids and complex public sector tenders to the BWL bid writing team. His move into consultancy follows a series of in-house Bid Manager roles, which included managing bid teams and mentoring colleagues through their APMP certification.

From Software Bids to Public Sector Tenders

Jack began his bid writing career at the age of 21 as a Technical Bid Writer at a software company, working within a bid team responsible for mid-market and enterprise opportunities. He achieved his CF APMP certification at the end of his first year in the role, and after 18 months he moved to a technology start-up as a Bid Manager, continuing his focus on software bids. At 23, Jack made public sector bidding his focus to develop a broader understanding of the sector.

Experience on Complex Public Sector Tenders

Jack went on to hold Bid Manager roles in the further and higher education and modular construction sectors, where he gained practical experience of complex tenders including contracts for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Department for Education (DfE). Alongside his bid work, he managed Bid Writers and Bid Coordinators and mentored team members pursuing their CF APMP certification through internal continuing professional development.

Choosing a Specialist Bid Consultancy

Jack recognised an established bid consultancy would support his continued development, with exposure to a wider range of bids than in-house roles offer and the opportunity to work within a team and learn from colleagues. Having held Bid Manager roles across different sectors, he joined BWL as a Senior Bid Writer to concentrate on developing his bid writing ability and bid management knowledge.

His First 6 Months at BWL

Looking Ahead

Jack will continue to broaden his knowledge by working with a wider range of BWL clients, while building his understanding of BWL as a consultancy to strengthen his business development capabilities. Regular feedback and peer reviews from senior colleagues in the team will support the ongoing development of his writing and management abilities. He is also working towards the next level of APMP certification, APMP Practitioner (CP APMP), with the exam planned for early 2027.
