Jagdeep (Jag) qualified as a solicitor in 1993 and specialises in litigation and efficient, pragmatic and practical resolution of disputes.

Jag is the Head of BWL’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice and the Compliance Officer Legal Practice (CoLP) and Training Principal based out of our Birmingham office.

Jag has a wealth of Litigation and Dispute Resolution experience gained over 30 years in practice undertaking both defendant and claimant work to include significant and unrivalled Public Sector (PS) knowledge gained over 16 years with Birmingham City Council, where he was Head of Service overseeing teams undertaking Commercial and Contract Litigation/Dispute Resolution Work, L&T, Residential & Commercial Property, Procurement and Payment disputes, Construction, Company & Partnership dispute work, Professional Negligence and Indemnity work, Personal Injury, Employment, Historic Abuse, HRA, Strategic Investigations and Audit work. He has variously managed teams with 23-40 members of staff with up to 5 direct reporting lines.

On leaving local government in 2014, he joined a top 50 national Defendant insurance practice where he was a partner responsible for Commercial Litigation as joint team leader and Historic Abuse. More latterly, before joining BWL, he was a Partner and Legal Director with a top 20 global law firm.

Jag undertakes a broad range of work and without limitation to include Professional Negligence, Contract, Company/Commercial and partnership disputes. He has been engaged in numerous high-value contract and construction/ procurement disputes, warranty disputes, misappropriation claims and fraud recoveries, Housing Stock Transfer claims, and ERDF grant clawback claims involving the Department for Communities & Local Government.

He also has Group Litigation experience as lead Defence solicitor.

His work has taken him across the country, with no region out of reach. Jagdeep has a strong understanding of the PS mindset and motivations within the Local Authority arena. He works collaboratively with clients to achieve pragmatic and practical solutions, enabling them to focus on their priorities. He endeavours to take the stress and worry away from his clients. Jagdeep has deep sector and industry knowledge.

Jag’s experience includes the following:

• Securing discontinuance of proceedings – DCLG against a local authority of 2.4m – European Regional Development Fund clawback claim.
• Defence of a £16m dispute in the Technology Construction Court for breach of warranties under contract was resolved via mediation for a relatively modest settlement.
• Acting for a local authority in defence of a £2.4m claim brought by the Department of Communities and local government for recoupment of a European regional development fund grant for breach of grant conditions and failure to achieve performance milestones.
• Defence of £1.75m tripartite local government pension scheme contractor dispute
• Multi-million pound publicly procured contract disputes regarding claims for overpayment, misapplication of pricing mechanisms under the contract, miss-measurement, and works not undertaken or not necessary.
• Variously engaged with senior officers and Directors, taking evidence to defend claims and undertake strategic investigations.
