BWL Construction Consultants support with agricultural building conversion
A unique opportunity was taken by Denby Homes Ltd to convert some derelict farm buildings into 4no separate dwellings based in Crowhurst, Surrey. The properties benefit from a large outdoor space surrounded by uninterrupted views and make good use of what would have been empty barns.
We were appointed as Quantity Surveyors, and were responsible for monitoring all commercial aspects of the project, , liaising with the entire project team to monitor and report on updated forecast cost, including any unforeseen costs.
This project did suffer from delays that were associated with unanticipated impediments, including the site not receiving incoming power in line with the agreed programme. We supported the management of project issues by advising on the costs of potential resolutions and by providingupdated forecast cost reports.
As a Design and Build Contract, the design was progressive throughout the duration of the project and we attended frequent meetings with the project team to develop and agree the final design. During these meetings, we advised on potential costs of different design and construction methodologies and suggesting value engineering options that reduce the Clients’ costs whilst still producing the quality of workmanship required.
Because of the due care and attention that we paid to this project and continual cost reporting throughout, the Client was fully aware of the final costs in advance of the handover, this mitigated any unnecessary disputes between parties.
The Church Farm project was a marked success and we have continued to work with the client on several other projects following completion.
