An opportunity has arisen for an Property Solicitor to join our Property And Projects Team in Tamworth.

About the firm

BWL Legal is a law firm specialising in property, construction and infrastructure. We are part of the BWL Group that includes BWL Construction Consultancy and BWL Professional Bid Services. BWL Legal is headquartered in Tamworth but we also have offices in London and Darlington. Our Property and Projects Team acts for property developers on sites located all over the country. Through our multi-disciplinary team, that includes solicitors from various disciplines and colleagues from BWL Construction Consultancy, we provide an end-to-end project service.

The role

You will be a solicitor with a keen interest in property generally and in particular property development and have prior experience in site set-up and plot sales. This is a role with plenty of variety and opportunities to develop your career. Our team is regularly engaged to advise on joint ventures, development agreements, options, site acquisition and disposal and funding arrangements in addition to supporting our clients' exit plans. We also advise on landlord and tenant matters and therefore it will be desirable if you have experience in drafting and advising clients in respect of leases and licences.

You will receive excellent mentoring and training and work closely with senior solicitors. Whilst we support clients with new build projects we regularly act on projects involving listed buildings, farm conversions and commercial to residential developments.

About you

  • Solicitor of England and Wales.

Legal Secretary

BWL Legal is recruiting an experienced Legal Secretary to join its busy team in Tamworth. This is an office based role and you will be in the hub of a strategically important part of our business.

Our Team

We specialise in property, construction and infrastructure and the successful candidate will mainly support the Property and Projects Team. This team is comprised of solicitors who have expertise in property, construction and corporate law and they support clients involved in property investment and development. Our solicitors also work with quantity surveyors, project managers and other construction professionals from BWL Construction Consultancy forming a complete end-to-end service.

The Role

You will be confident in dealing with internal stakeholders up to and including Managing Director and liaising with key external stakeholders and provide an exceptional and seamless secretarial support service.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Previous legal secretarial experience (residential or commercial property) is essential.
  • Supporting fee earners with file opening, closing and post completion activities.
  • Ability to complete SDLT and Land Registry forms.
  • Support fee earners by ordering searches.
  • Maintain and update firm stationary.
  • Ensure accurate filing of paper files.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Clio Manage and Clio Grow (matter management system).
  • Provide some PA activities to fee earners e.g. travel arrangements.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge is essential.
  • Being a visible presence and a go-to person with a desire to solve problems.
  • Highly motivated to work in a team environment and committed to client service.
  • Able to work under pressure and to deadlines and with an ability to prioritise.

Associate Commercial Property Solicitor

An opportunity has arisen for a new Associate Commercial Property Solicitor to join our growing team in Tamworth reporting to the Managing Director.

The role

The successful candidate will be an integral part of our commercial property team and will have a key role to play in supporting senior solicitors with all aspects of client matters, developing new client relationships and maintaining existing ones.

The team currently acts for a large number of property investors and developers and clients who are buying, selling, or leasing commercial property. We have a particular emphasis on supporting the needs of developers via our multi-disciplinary team of solicitors and construction professionals. The successful candidate will possess an excellent technical knowledge of all areas of non-contentious commercial property transactions including project development, freehold and leasehold acquisitions, issues relating to property developments, landlord and tenant and secured lending.

In this role, the successful candidate will be supervised and mentored by senior practitioners and conduct and manage their own cases from initial instruction through to conclusion. You will also assist in marketing and business development of the department and firm.

This role is permanent and on a full-time basis and based in our Tamworth office.

We allow our team to work from home 1 day per week (excluding Monday and Friday).

Bid Consultant (Darlington or Tamworth)

The Role:

BWL is a legal and professional services group that has an exciting opportunity for a Bid Manager/Senior Bid Manager to carry out the role of a Bid Consultant. The role includes writing and coordinating proposals that clearly articulate a clients organisation value proposition.

The position will suit an ambitious Bid Manager looking to take the next step in their career to being a Bid Consultant.

On a day to day basis, a Bid Consultant will act as a dedicated bid resource to complete bids for a range of clients. Only one bid or tender is assigned to a Bid Consultant at any one time, allowing our Bid Consultants to focus on one bid at a time (and have a life!).

The Salary: £52,000 p/a

Job Location: Darlington or Tamworth (with the flexibility to operate from home at least twice a week)

Bonus: A bonus is applied for every bid the consultant supports


Responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting to Managing Director of Professional Bid Services
  • Managing / liaising with clients at various levels
  • Produce accurate and complete responses to PQQ’s, RFI’s, RFQ’s and ITT’s.
  • Gather information from technical contacts to support the development of
    responses
  • Reviewing responses and proofreading
  • Developing corporate presentations
  • Managing sales from existing clients

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will hold the following skills and qualifications:

  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Excellent time management
  • Bid Management experience
  • Experienced in developing a range of responses for construction, utilities, rail or highways contracts.
  • Degree level education (creative writing, marketing, journalism, business management, business economics or similar)
  • Intuitive
  • Experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • APMP Proposal Management knowledge (preferable but not essential)

Assistant Accountant

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated Assistant Accountant to join BWL Group reporting directly to the Finance Director.

About the firm

BWL Group is comprised of a solicitors firm, quantity surveying practice and a leading bid writing consultancy. Despite Brexit and Covid-19, the group has continued to experience significant year-on-year growth.

We now need an additional Assistant Accountant to support our teams based in London, Darlington and Tamworth.

The role

This is a very hands-on role with responsibility for a range of activities including accounts payable, month-end closing, balance sheet reconciliation, intercompany recharges and management reporting and analysis.

There are excellent career progression opportunities for the right candidate and the role will grow as the Group grows and additional recruitment is made by the Finance Department.

This role is a full-time and permanent position based in our Tamworth office.

Responsibilities:

  1. Accounts Payable, Expenses and weekly Payment Run
  2. Weekly credit control
  3. Daily bank reconciliations.
  4. Answering client enquiries.
  5. Assisting in Month End closing including processing payroll journal, pension submission, payments, intercompany charges, and balance sheet reconciliations for all entities.
  6. Maintain fixed asset register in the accounting system and the HR system for the employee assets profile.
  7. Maintain Legal client account ledger on daily basis. This includes recording and reconciling all transactions on a daily basis.
  8. Maintain the interface data integrity between the legal matter management system and the accounting system.
  9. Answering clients’ queries about the client account transactions.
  10. Assisting in billing when it’s required.

Construction Solicitor (Tamworth or Hybrid)

The Role

An opportunity has arisen at BWL Legal for a commercially astute and ambitious Construction Solicitor. This role is aimed at a solicitor with between 4 and 6 years pqe who will form part of a multi-disciplinary team. The team advises clients on all elements of property and infrastructure projects including land, corporate/commercial, construction and finance.

This role will be based from our Tamworth office.

About You

You will be a confident Construction Solicitor and be on the roll of solicitors in England and Wales. Your work will require you to have an in-depth understanding of NEC3/4 and JCT contracts as a minimum. In your role you will provide advice on high value infrastructure contracts and supports clients in negotiating terms and conditions. You will also have experience in drafting a range of bespoke and standard form contracts used in construction including construction contracts, sub-contracts, deeds of appointment, collateral warranties, performance bonds, etc.

The ideal candidate will come from a good regional or national firm and have a solid background in a relevant area of practice.
