Celebrating BWL’s Growth

By Lisa Reece, Director & Senior Bid Consultant

With client demand rising across our core sectors and a growing pipeline of projects, contracts, and frameworks in the works, we have been investing in the people who make it all possible. Three significant developments mark the next chapter of our growth story – a well-deserved internal promotion, the return of a familiar face, and an active search for a new Senior Bid Writer to join our award-winning team.

Clare Abbott Promoted to Bid and Commercial Manager

It takes a particular kind of professional to thrive in tendering, and Clare Abbott is a prime example. Having joined BWL as a Senior Bid Writer, Clare has recently been promoted to Bid and Commercial Manager – a progression that reflects both her individual contribution and the growing scale and complexity of the opportunities we support.

Since joining the business, Clare has played a central role in developing high-scoring tender submissions across infrastructure and specialist service sectors, with a particular focus on facilities management and landscaping. Her work has extended beyond bids and through targeted engagement and careful relationship development, she has secured multiple new client appointments and strengthened several of our existing partnerships.

In her new role, Clare takes on broader responsibility for bid strategy, commercial alignment, and team coordination. Her appointment forms part of BWL’s wider growth plan, strengthening the link between commercial oversight and bid management services as the business continues to secure new frameworks and projects and maintains the high standards our clients expect.

Clare said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been promoted to Bid and Commercial Manager. Since joining BWL, I have enjoyed engaging with a wide range of clients, from SMEs to Tier 1 contractors, and I am looking forward to further developing my commercial awareness and business development capability as BWL continues to grow.”

Jake Small Returns as Senior Bid Writer

We are delighted to welcome Jake Small back to BWL as a Senior Bid Writer. Jake first joined the business in 2020, progressing to Senior Bid Writer in 2021 before taking on a role with a Tier 1 construction contractor to broaden his experience. He returns to the team with strengthened expertise and an impressive portfolio of major infrastructure work behind him across rail, highways, utilities, energy, and renewables sectors.

During his time away, Jake was involved in some of the most significant frameworks in the country such as Network Rail’s CP7 Eastern Routes Partnership, Northumbrian Water’s Living Water Ecosystem, and multiple central energy network submissions, including SP Energy Network, SSEN, Electricity North West, and National Grid.

Jake brings a well-rounded skill set to our bid writing services, covering bid writing and coordination, stakeholder engagement, business development, and the management of complex, deadline drive and demanding submissions. His return meaningfully strengthens our capacity to support both existing clients and new relationships as we continue to grow in the UK and Ireland.

Jake said: “It’s great to be welcomed back into the BWL team. I look forward to bringing my experience to the business and supporting our clients as we continue to grow”.

We Are Recruiting A Senior Bid Writer

To keep pace with increasing client demand and a growing volume of high-value submissions, BWL Group is now recruiting for another Senior Bid Writer.

This new role is part of our growth strategy and the successful candidate will lead and coordinate complex tenders across a range of sectors, working closely with commercial, operational, and technical teams to develop compelling, client-focused responses. They will need to be comfortable under pressure, confident in their own ability, and genuinely invested in the quality of the work they produce.

Joining BWL means becoming part of a business with strong sector relationships, a collaborative and teamwork culture, and a defined growth plan. For the right person, it is an opportunity to work on some of the most interesting and technically demanding bids in the UK market, supported by a team with a proven track record in bid writing, bid management, and strategic bid services.

Further information on the role and how to apply is available on our LinkedIn Jobs page.

Michael Lee, CEO of BWL Group said “At BWL Group, we have developed a culture that allows you to enjoy your role as a bid professional and have a life beyond work. We only assign you to one bid at a time to reduce stress and help your mind focus. When you join the business, we provide you and your family with the best private healthcare, dental care, and optical care for when you need it most. Everyone within the business values everyone else. If someone needs help, they receive it.”
